T3 / DS3 Bandwidth

The Broadconnect T3 manageable media converter is a member of the modular Broadconnect product family. It provides standard T3 (44.736Mbps) coax to fiber conversion and can be used by telco service providers and enterprise users to connect to devices such as PBX’s, multiplexers, routers and video servers via fiber. The T3 operates in pairs extending distances over fiber, improving noise-immunity and quality of service while improving intrusion protection and network security.

Being framing independent, the T3 operates with framed or unframed data. It also operates with channelized or fractional unchannelized data streams. It supports B3ZS line coding for T3 (DS3) and HDB3 for E3.

Broadconnect T3 models are available with multimode, single-mode, and single-fiber (single-mode) options. ST, SC, LC and MT-RJ fiber connector types are supported. Distances of up to 120 km for single-mode dual-fiber, 40 km for single-mode single-fiber and 5 km for multimode fiber are supported.

The T3 supports standard RG-59, 75 ohm coax cabling. Line build-out is user selectable accommodating short-haul distances under 225 ft. (68.5 m) and long-haul distances up to 1245 ft. (380 m) for T3 (DS3).

Individual coax and fiber port access can be controlled, providing the network administrator with an easy mechanism for controlling usage and access to the network.

DS3 Line

Keep in mind that a DS3 line is an ultra high-speed connection capable of transmitting data at rates up to 45 Mbps. A DS3 line is equal to approximately 672 regular voice-grade telephone lines, which is fast enough to transmit full-motion, real-time video, and very large databases over a busy network.
